Isaiah 64:1-9 is a prayer from exiled Israelites crying out to God for powerful intervention, acknowledging their deep sinfulness (likening righteous acts to "filthy rags") and pleading for God to act like He did at Sinai, tearing the heavens open and coming down to save them from their devastating destruction and alienation, recognizing they are His people but have rebelled, and asking Him not to remember their iniquity forever, but to act as their powerful Creator and Potter for His name's sake.
